I wonder if I set the location to be the USA, does the weather data I get span the entire US? Is it an average

Support Agent Official comment Our weather data is always reported based on a point location. So, whatever location you enter is geocoded to a point and then the weather at the port is returned as your result. Note that in the case of "USA" the geocoder appears to geocode the point to Washington DC.
In order to test where a specific location geocodes, you can use our Weather History Dashboard here - https://www.visualcrossing.com/weather-history The dashboard has a map that shows the geocoded point as well as the nearby weather stations.
The best way to avoid uncertainty relating to geocoding is to pass a latitude/longitude pair into your weather query. Doing this will ensure that you are in complete control of the exact point being queried.
