I am wondering why my API results do not match your "Normal Weather" tool (visualcrossing.com/average-weather). For these coordinates it is close, but some coordinates deviate by several degrees.
My API gives:
tempmax: 76
tempmin: 58.9
humidity: 74.9
No matter the location, the numbers always seem to be different. Am I using the wrong API?
The exact values for weather averages depend upon the exact algorithm and parameters used to calculate them. In the case, of our Average Weather dashboard, we are using our older, History Summary API. However, in your example query you are using our newer Timeline API. As you have noticed there are subtle differences between the two calculations. However, the results are very close. Since "average weather" is simply an approximation of conditions that you are likely to see on a given day based on aggregating data over the past decades, variations within even a few degrees or a few percent of relative humidity is well "within the noise" for all practical use cases.
If you need to apply a specific algorithm or specific tolerances for a weather average project, then you will likely want to directly retrieve the specific daily or hourly weather records for your location(s) and calculate the averages yourself using code or an analysis tool.
